Our road trip through Eastern Europe was wonderful. Lots to see and so much time to talk. Except for the day we drove from Budapest to Split, we didn't spend long stretches in the car because European cities aren't terribly far from each other. It's hard to understand in today's world of fast and easy travel how cities so close in proximity can have such different cultures, foods, and languages. Two weeks was about as long as I could stand to be away from the kids, but, if we had more time and more money, it would have been fun to add more stops to the vacation. (Ben talked bout doing it again sometime, with the kids, when they are older, better travelers.)

| Ben did ALL the driving. He said he loved it. I'm glad he did, because unfamiliar roads are not my favorite. I also got to do a bit of napping en route. Oh, and, we kept plenty of road treats and drinks in the car. |

| Check out that windshield! The marina in Split, Croatia was our destination. It was nice to start seeing Split signs. |

| Lots of road in front of us. And, with the exception of Budapest, that GPS in the windshield was a real gem. We didn't have a map to speak of in the car. We didn't need to ask directions anywhere. Just plug in the city or an address and off we drove. |

The Croatian coast is very rocky. We must have driven through two dozen tunnels.
Some were not very long, other a few kilometers. |
